Sia -'Cheap Thrills' Lyric Video
Over the past few years, Sia has been making fantastic Music Videos to accompany her hit singles. However, her latest video for her single cheap thrills really stood out as one of her best in my opinion. The setting of the music video seems to be at some sort of dance competition. The video starts off with the judge asking someone what they think to the new song. When she is done giving her opinion, the music then starts and the contestants/attendees start to dance. They are then interrupted by two masked characters, both of whom are wearing Sia's famous black and blonde hair style. The original competitors seem surprised when the two character start to dance.
What I love most about this video is how it shows the audience many modern and classic styles of dancing. From watching the video I can single out dance moves from the likes of Michael Jackson and even Beyonce. The fact that the video is all in black and white and the characters are all dressed in old fashioned outfits tells me that this video is meant to be set in the 50's/60's. This makes the video better as we are seeing styles of dancing that have not even been discovered as artist like Micheal Jackson and Beyonce are both artists who were not around a that time.
The 1975 - Robbers
Robbers is one of the singles that featured on the 1975's debut album. Like all of their other songs, it came with a Music Video that has a great narrative. In this video we see the use of Intertextuality as the female character in the video is meant to be a re creation of Patricia Arquette's character in True Romance. The film is about a girl who craves a 'bad boy' sort of character, and this character is the bands front man Matty Healy. Throughout the clip, the audience catch glimpses of the pairs spiralling drug problem which is affecting their relationship. To try and fuel their drug problem, they decide to hold up a store, which inevitably goes wrong and the male character gets shot. The video then ends with his partner and him fleeing the scene with there other partners in crime, who are the other three band members.
What i like most about this video is how the video includes all of the members of the band. This allows fans to see that they are talented actors as well as musicians. This music video also allows the audience to see what drug use can force a person to do, and the possible effects of these actions.
Kodaline - High Hopes
Another music video that I admire is High Hopes by Kodaline. This is because the music video tells a fantastic story about two characters (male and female) who end up falling in love with each other. The best thing about this love story is how both characters met. The music video starts with the male character attempting to commit suicide in his car. As he is in process of this he is then interrupted by a women in a wedding dress. He then realises that she is being chased by her groom, so he lets her in the car and then drives off. The music video then finishes when the groom chooses to kill both of the characters as he can't cope with them to being together.
The thing that I admire most about this music video is the the love story that it tells. I like how both of them made each others lives better even though they were at such low points.
