How do musicians influence society?

Music is a huge factor in the social changes occurring today. Whether it be in costume, style, attitude or even parodies.

 

Michael Jackson

 

Michael Jackson was an artist who had a huge influence in the change in society. Michael Jackson was known for wearing a single, white, sequined glove. The red leather jacket with so many zippers. The pegged pants and the fedora. This was a very new and eccentric look that was new to everybody. When this costume was introduced to the public in the 90’s, people started to realise that they liked his image and the demand for these items of clothing rose as people wanted to be like him.

 

Jackson also influenced a change in dance in the 90’s. His leans, moonwalks and crotch grabs were known worldwide. People wanted to be able to dance like as it was a new and original.

Anna Kendrick's

Anna Kendrick is an actress/singer who starred in the 2013 film, Pitch Perfect. In the film, there is a scene where Anna Kendrick performs a song called the ‘Cup Song’. This song involved her using a cup for the beat of the song and her singing the lyrics. When audiences saw the film, they started doing their own renditions of the song and posting them on social media for other people to see. This just shows how much music influences society, a two minute song from a film lead to thousands of people performing the song for other people to see.

Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus is an artist who recently created quite a stir in society. When Miley Cyrus released her song ‘Wrecking Ball’ in 2013 in lead to controversy on the internet. The video involved her swinging on a wrecking ball whilst being naked.
